Technical Assistance for Developing a Project Proposal for Mainstreaming Climate Change Adaptation Technologies into Disaster Response and Recovery Projects in Mozambique

Building Resilience: Mozambique's Strategic Initiative to Integrate Climate Adaptation into Disaster Management
2025

A pivotal consultancy service in Mozambique, backed by the African Development Bank, aimed at integrating climate change adaptation technologies into disaster response and recovery projects. This initiative seeks to develop a detailed project proposal that incorporates resilient strategies to protect the country against climate-related risks such as tropical cyclones, floods, heavy rainfall, storm surges, and landslides.

The consultancy focuses on enhancing the nation's adaptive capacity and resilience by weaving climate adaptation technologies and approaches into local disaster management frameworks. The project involves several key activities: drafting an Inception Report to outline the project's framework and objectives, assessing the current situation in the country to identify capabilities and areas for improvement, mapping existing disaster response and recovery activities to align with new adaptation strategies, conducting capacity-building training for local stakeholders, and crafting a robust project proposal followed by a validation workshop to finalize and endorse the adaptation strategies. This strategic effort positions Mozambique as a model for integrating climate change adaptation into disaster preparedness and recovery operations across Africa.
